Milestones
From Vision to Reality
Mamata Andha Anath Kalyan Kendra has steadily grown since its inception in 2013. The organization began with a small dormitory, providing basic necessities and a safe haven for a limited number of visually impaired students. Over the years, Mamata Andha Anath Kalyan Kendra has expanded its services, improving living conditions, enhancing academic support programs, and incorporating vocational training initiatives. This journey reflects the unwavering commitment of the organization to empower visually impaired students and create a brighter future for them.

Mamata Andha Anath Kalyan Kendra was founded in 2013 with a vision to support visually impaired student youths who come to urban areas for education. Recognizing the unique challenges they face, our organization set out to provide a safe and accessible dormitory, catering to their daily living needs, healthcare, and emotional well-being. The first batch of students arrived, and the foundation for a transformative organization was laid.

In 2015, our organization expanded to accommodate 20 visually impaired students. This growth was accompanied by key partnerships with local educational institutions, ensuring that students had access to quality education and resources. Additionally, the NGO began collaborating with local smaller businesses to provide practical learning experiences and exposure to real-world skills, strengthening the support network for its residents.

Our organization’s student base grew to 30, prompting further expansion of its services. The organization partnered with healthcare institutions to offer regular medical check-ups and emergency healthcare, prioritizing the well-being of its students. The kitchen facilities were also expanded to provide nutritious meals for the growing number of residents. Alongside these developments, the NGO increased its peer mentoring programs, fostering a stronger sense of community and encouraging students to support and learn from one another.

In 2022, the student population reached 40. With a growing emphasis on employability, the NGO introduced skills development programs. Workshops, vocational training, and career guidance sessions were implemented to equip students with the necessary skills for the job market. The focus shifted towards empowering students to become independent, self-sufficient, and ready for employment. Our organization continued to nurture an inclusive environment, ensuring that each student had the opportunity to thrive academically and professionally.

In 2024, our organization took a significant step by partnering with corporates to promote skill mapping and enhance employment opportunities for its visually impaired students. These collaborations included job-readiness programs, internships, and mentorship initiatives that bridged the gap between education and the professional world. By fostering direct connections with the corporate sector, our organization ensured that its students were well-prepared to enter the workforce and build meaningful careers. The focus on employability, combined with years of holistic support, marked our organization’s continued commitment to transforming the lives of visually impaired youths, empowering them to achieve independence and success in a competitive world.
